Ever wonder why your skin is breaking out? Or why your pores appear to be massive? I ask myself these questions all the time. I’m going to be transparent with you for a second. I woke up the other morning with a big zit right in between my eyebrows… and when I say big, I mean Mount Everest was literally on my forehead. Okay I am being a little dramatic but you get the picture. So I discovered this thing when I walked into the bathroom after doing my one sit-up for the day when I get out of bed (Yes that was my ab workout that day… no judging). I looked into the mirror and BAM! I low-key screamed and scared my dogs half to death. Good thing I was the only one home and God gave us girls makeup to save the day.
Ever have one of those mornings?
There are dozens of articles out there on how to prevent acne and how to decrease the size of your pores. The answer is a good skin care routine. I am very fortunate enough to have a mother who is an esthetician. She makes sure I have wonderful products to prevent breakouts. (GO MOM!) But I’m here to tell you that you need to wash your face twice a day, morning and evening. I know… it is time consuming and some mornings you don’t want cold water splashed on your face.. I get it trust me. But I have found that if I work that into my morning and evening routine, my face is clearer and looks healthier. Not to mention my skin is happy and thanks me for it!
There is another product out there these days that has gotten all the hype lately and that is a charcoal mask. My sister informed me about it when she walked into my room with black allover her face and scared me. Gotta love sisters right? When she told me that it clears out all the muck and dirt from your pores and gets rid of those unwanted blackheads on your face… I knew I needed to give it a try! I mean… who wants those lovely blackheads on their face? Not me, that is for certain.
I have heard nothing but great things about both of these brands when it comes to their charcoal masks. The Origins charcoal mask you can get at Ulta or Macys. The Beauty Counter mask you can get on their website.
When I tried this mask, I applied it with a foundation makeup brush. Then I let it dry for about 15 minutes. During the drying process, it feels like you have a serious botox addiction. You can’t move your face, so if you do take selfies, take them right after you put it on;) My sister and I found that out the hard way lol. When it was dry, I peeled it off. Now I’m not going to lie. It does hurt a little, and you can always wash it off with water.
Experimenting with this mask was so much fun and one that I will incorporate into my routine once a week!
